The Forum Southend-on-Sea opened in September 2013. This impressive new building is a partnership project between the University
of Essex, South Essex College and Southend Borough Council. It provides an academic library for students at our Southend Campus and
substantial additional teaching and learning facilities for our students and staff. Facilities include:
- second floor fully dedicated to University of Essex students
- vibrant new IT working spaces in the Learning Hub
- new public and academic library
- new research and learning facilities
- Focal Point Gallery
- 200-seat lecture theatre

The Learning Hub
The Learning Hub at The Forum features innovative new spaces for students to study and work together plus the latest technology to support your
work. It also provides a base for the extra services we offer to help you get the most out of your time at Essex.
Individual height-adjustable computers, ideal for quickly checking e-mail, submitting work or updating Facebook, Twitter or other social media.
Open study space
A social space for studying including islands of computers where you can work alongside fellow students and easily collaborate on projects.
The adaptable learning space has seating areas to take time out. There are also small breakaway pods available with computer access for working groups.
A room of pods which you can be used for studying or teaching as a group or on your own. Each pod has an individual projector to support interactive group
The furniture is based around group study islands and especially designed so you can rearrange it however you want to make the most out of the space. This
space is great for small or large groups. Can be booked if required.
Exactly what you might need when you need to focus on your work, a quiet room to take your books and thoughts, and study in peace. Each desk has task lighting
and a power socket.
Depending on your activity you can rearrange the furniture for whatever you are studying.
Whether you need some help with computer access, have a library query or need to speak to someone about careers and employment, the Info Point is where you
need to go for advice and support.
Work on film, photos, publications, music and audio projects using the latest Apple iMac computers and media editing software in these sound-proofed booths.
We provide you with everything you might need to support your studies including photocopiers, vending machines, lockers and water coolers - all
conveniently located along the second floor.
