Cultural life at Colchester Campus
There are number of varied and exciting events taking place around all three of
our campuses, including exhibitions and performances at our arts and theatre venues. Check out the events diary to find out what's coming soon.
For many years the University of Essex has played a major part in the
county's cultural life, providing a wide range of events and supporting major
events such as the Essex Book
Festival. Essex is also unique among UK universities by having a theatre at
each of its three campuses.
Our Lakeside Theatre hosts
drama, dance, comedy and music events which are open to the public. They are
also a focus for workshops and school activities.
Our art gallery Art Exchange
is one of the region’s leading galleries of contemporary art, showing the
work of internationally renowned artists, while also supporting emerging
The Essex Collection of Art from
Latin America (ESCALA) is the largest public collection of its kind in
Europe and is on display in the Albert Sloman Library, the parkland around
our Colchester Campus and firstsite, the major arts facility in Colchester.
The University of Essex
Choir has developed a reputation for high quality and inspirational
performances and is widely recognised as one of the foremost large ensembles
in the east of England. Founded in 1977 and numbering about 130 singers, membership is drawn from staff and students of the
University and from the local community.
