Our Centre hosts a number of conferences and other one-off events throughout
the year, which bring together academics, students and the public to engage in
lively debates in this exciting field. We often record these events and they can

Freud Memorial Lecture
Our annual Freud Memorial Lecture is a special event for the Centre, which
attracts quality speakers from a variety of fields.
This year Professor R.D. Hinshelwood spoke on Truth and Treachery: lies,
damned lies and dream symbols.

- Fomenting Political Violence - Phantasy, Language, Media, Action
- "What do I care?" Understanding My Place in the System of Care. This was the
first 'Social Care Active Education Event' for front line staff in Residential
Care and Foster Care and took place in April 2016.
The place of sexuality in the approaches of Melanie Klein and of
Wilfred Bion, March 2015
This one-day workshop aimed to set out the positions of Klein and
Bion as understood by Professor R.D. Hinshelwood (on Klein), and Professor
Nicola Abel-Hirsh (on Bion). There was opportunity for discussion and for the
examination of presented clinical material.
The Feeling of Certainty, November 2014
This one-day conference explored the implications of The Feeling
of Certainty, a complex idea connecting Karl Figlio's work over
the past decade.
