A number of academics from around the world will be visiting our Department of Economics this year to attend lectures that support their research areas and home teaching needs and produce research that has been enriched by their interactions here as part of our international visitor’s programme.
Currently visiting from China are Cai Yingzhou from Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics, Wenxiang Wang from Jiantong University and Guoying Liuy, from Jianxi University. They all are working on separate projects whilst at Essex. Cai is nearing the end of his visit now and has already had a productive time, publishing recent work on the cultural effects of the incorporation of virtual reality into television viewing. His interests lie in the general interplay between the media and society.
This Spring, we also welcome Greg Wright from the University of California and Arijit Mukherjee from Michigan State University. Both will be working on joint research projects with our academics. Greg’s work is in the area of international trade, with projects joint with Essex academics ranging from the long run consequences of a trade embargo to misreporting of international trade flows. Arijit’s work is in the area of industrial organization with joint projects with Essex economists on job assignment and relational contracting.
Dr Kate Rockett, Head of our Department of Economics said: “Visiting programmes provide extremely important support for our own research programme by allowing us to not only work with internationally excellent academics, but also bring them here so that they can share their expertise with a larger group. When visitors are able to attend our lectures as well, it allows us to better integrate our educational offering with the programmes of our partners and also share our expertise, allowing for a better experience both here and abroad.”
