Academic expansion at the University of Essex

Essex provides a home for the tenacious, the bold, the inquisitive and those impatient for change. From pioneering research to student activism, we have never accepted the status quo. We share an equal commitment to excellence in education and excellence in research and we are on a quest to appoint people who will help us achieve our goals.

Celebrating our 50th anniversary in 2014, we are in the top four universities for the quality of our social science research and ranked 19th in REF 2014. In 2013 Her Majesty the Queen awarded Essex a Regius Professorship in Political Science - one of only two universities to hold a Regius Professorship in the Social Sciences.

The 2016 National Student Survey results placed Essex joint 8th out of all English mainstream universities and in the top 10 for the fourth year in a row. In the mock Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) published in June 2016, the Times Higher placed Essex 13th and we aspire to a Gold rating when the TEF is published later in the spring. Confirming our global reputation, in the QS World Rankings, Essex is ranked 25th for the most international student community and 60th for the most international academic community in the world, with the 2017 Times Higher Education world rankings placing the University 18th in the world for our international outlook.

We are committed to offering a transformative educational experience. In our 2015 QAA Higher Education Review, we were commended for our student focus, confirming our commitment to excellence in providing our students with high-quality learning, supported by strong extra-curricular opportunities.

As part of our continuing investment in academic posts, we are looking to make over twenty appointments across our three Faculties. We have ambitious plans for our future and are seeking staff who share the Essex spirit. We hope this website provides an insight into who we are, our philosophy and the exciting opportunities available – we look forward to receiving your application.
