How to apply

All posts will be appointed by a University Selection Committee chaired either by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Anthony Forster, the relevant Faculty Executive Dean or Deputy Dean.

Procedure for application

Recruitment at the University of Essex is undertaken online. To apply for any of the posts listed on this site you'll need to click on the link for the relevant job, complete a short application form and attach a number of documents - these will be specified in the Job Pack for the role and will be used in the shortlisting and selection process.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to visit the Colchester Campus to meet relevant Faculty staff and to have a formal interview. You may also be asked to give a research presentation. The appointment will be made subject to satisfactory references and right to work checks, and will be in line with University Ordinances and relevant terms of employment.

Diversity

The University values diversity and welcomes applications from all sections of the community. We are committed to promoting equal opportunities in all our employment practices and aim to ensure that no applicant or member of staff is disadvantaged or discriminated against either directly or indirectly.

In order to ensure the effectiveness of this policy, it is necessary to collect information from all applicants via an equality monitoring form. The information provided will be handled in the strictest confidence and will only be used for statistical monitoring purposes.

The University of Essex uses the Disability Confident symbol. This symbol recognises those employers who have agreed to meet certain commitments regarding the recruitment, employment, retention and career development of disabled people. As part of this accreditation we guarantee an interview to any candidate with a disability who meets the essential criteria for the post.

The University of Essex is also a member of Stonewall's Diversity Champions programme, Britain's good practice employers' forum on sexual orientation. We are one of only six universities to get 10 out of 10 for Stonewall's Gay by Degree. We hold Athena Swan Charter (Bronze Award) for Women in Science recognising our commitment to advancing women's careers in science and we are one of the first universities to gain an Institutional Gender Equality Charter Mark.
