Supporting and nurturing students' development

Our vision for Health and Social Care is to provide the quality systems and processes to ensure the learners participate in excellent practice placement experiences that value and recognise diversity, inclusion and well-being. We will be part of your journey to help you to reach your full potential as a healthcare professional. We will build strong partnerships with our health and care partners, our community and voluntary services, as well as other education settings.

We are part of your journey of development and recognise the part practice placements play in helping you grow.

Whether you are a student, trainee, practice supervisor, practice assessor or practice educator, the information here should provide you with a toolkit of everything you'll need to support University of Essex students on placement.

What our students say about placement:

Head and shoulders photo of Emma Bird
Emma Bird, BSc Adult Nursing
Emma has recently been on placement in a hospice.  She says: “The team I’m working alongside has shown me that our patients are at the hospice for their physical, emotional and spiritual needs; in which we aim to bring comfort and relief to all those who need it. Patients enjoy laughter, regardless of which stage of their life they are currently facing, and I enjoy laughing with the patients, while also caring for their needs and addressing any concerns relating to their health. One patient said to me: ‘My prognosis isn’t ideal, but I wish I could see you graduate, because you’re doing an amazing job and I know you will be a fantastic nurse’.  Emma has recently been nominated for SNTA's Student Nurse of the YEar: Adult Award 2024.
