Modern languages resources

Our impressive range of modern language modules are open to students across the University, whether you are studying one of our specialised modern language courses, joint courses or as an outside option. This page contains resources to help with your studies.

Modern languages film club

The modern languages film club shows films from around the world in all the languages taught in our department: French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese and Arabic. The films are screened on Wednesdays during term time, with English subtitles. Students and staff from across our University are welcome to attend.

The film club was founded in 2002 with the objective of supporting students with their language learning as well as creating awareness of the cultures of the countries where theses languages are spoken.

Language Cafés

The Language Cafés are run by our Department to give language students the opportunity to practice the language they are learning with native speakers. The sessions normally take place on Wednesday afternoons, outside teaching time. Students are encouraged to practice their oral skills through debates, games, etc.
