Research teams are working in the forefront of their respective fields, with recognised international quality research in Environmental Biology, Marine Sciences, Molecular Biophysics, Molecular Medicine and Sports and Exercise Science.

School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering

The School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering teaches Computing and Electronics at BSc, MSc, MPhil and PhD levels and is proud of its world-leading research in many areas including Evolutionary Computation, Brain-Computer Interfacing, Intelligent Inhabited Environments and Financial Forecasting. The Robotics research group is the largest of its kind in the UK.

School of Health and Human Sciences

The School of Health and Human Sciences is committed to making a difference to local, national and international health services through education, research and knowledge transfer. Key to delivering this objective is having strong collaborative links with partner organisations and service users. The multi-disciplinary nature of the School has fostered a dynamic and innovative learning environment, offering foundation degrees to doctorates, research and consultancy.

Department of Mathematical Sciences

The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers a range of forward-thinking and innovative courses and research opportunities, often in collaboration with departments across the University and beyond. The department’s work is underpinned by the belief that few academic disciplines can do without the objective insights that mathematics provides. Members of the Department are linked with other departments and contribute to their research agendas.

Department of Psychology

The Department of Psychology offers a vibrant and dynamic study and research environment with purpose-built labs and state-of-the-art testing facilities (EEG, TMS, near infra-red spectroscopy and eye tracking) in the Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory. The Department's research activity is diverse and broad-based and includes cognition, mental health, neuropsychology, sensory perception, social and health psychology, and affective and cognitive neuroscience.
