Accommodation

Students with individual needs

Adapted rooms

We have a range of individual needs rooms with various adaptions, including:

  • Wheelchair access
  • Hearing impairment enhancements/adaptions
  • Emergency call point/panic alarm
  • Kitchen adaptions
  • Automated doors
  • Shower room adaptions including grab rails and emergency call point/panic alarms - shower seats can be requested if not already available. In all cases, the grab rails and shelving can be adjusted for each individual
  • All rooms are provided with a low-level, non-adjustable steel bed frame and mattress. Non-standard, specialist equipment, for example, a height-adjustable bed or hoist, must be provided or supplied by the student

Although every effort is made to assist in making reasonable adjustments to suit the needs of individuals, further funding and support may be required to arrange more specific specialised adaptations and equipment.

Further information and a guide to applying for accommodation can be found in our accommodation accessibility brochures below and on our access and disability pages.

Viewing accommodation

We do have regular Offer Holder Days and Open Days throughout the year and as part of this you can view on-campus accommodation, including adapted rooms. The events are run by Communications and External Relations and the tours are given by our Student Ambassadors.

Applying for an adapted room

Before applying please ensure that you read the guidance from Student Support and contact the Accessibility and Wellbeing Service via email. They will be able to provide advice and information about how your accommodation needs may be met and also provide information about funding for specialist individual equipment e.g. ceiling mounted hoists.

Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs)

The Fire Safety Officer can discuss and agree a personal emergency evacuation plan for you to use in the event of an emergency if you have a disability, long term medical condition, or temporary condition which may impact on your safe evacuation. If you do not require an adapted room, but it would be beneficial to be on the ground floor, please let us know when you apply.
