With the new term comes the return of the much loved art classes at Art Exchange!

Throughout the Autumn term, students and staff will be able to relax and unwind with weekly painting classes with artist Claudia Boese and weekly arts and crafts classes with artists Tom Armstrong and Iris Gunnarsdottir.

Painting Classes with Claudia

Tuesdays 22 October to 26 November (no class 12 November), 6pm to 8pm

We are very excited to welcome back Claudia Boese to Art Exchange. Claudia is based in Ipswich and uses painting as her primary medium. Her art explores paint and looking.

Anyone can come to Claudia's painting classes to relax, meet new friends and develop your painting skills. We will explore paint and painting together, with Claudia showing us how.

There's a different class each week and beginners are welcome:

  • 22 October – Tangerine Dream, still lives with fruit
  • 29 October – Under the Rainbow, painting colour
  • 5 November – Lucky Dip, painting with accident and chance
  • 19 November – Whatever You Want, free form painting
  • 26 November – Cakes It Off, painting cakes, and then eating them

All materials are provided. You don’t need to book – just turn up.

Get Creative with Tom and Iris

Wednesdays 16 October to 4 December (no workshop 13 November), 6pm to 8pm

Artists Tom and Iris sit in their living room surrounded by their artists tools

The extremely popular arts and crafts workshops with local artists Tom and Iris return this autumn term! Tom contributes cartoons to Private Eye (under the initials T.E.A), teaches art classes, draws comic books and sometimes makes big artworks and Iris is an artist and ceramist who explores concepts of equality and mutual support from within a feminist framework.

Everyone is welcome to join our arts and crafts workshops where you can relax, meet new friends and develop your artistic skills  along the way. Each week we will make something new, starting with macrame hanging baskets!

  • 16 October – Make Your own Hanging basket, with pot plants thrown in for free!
  • 23 October – Printing Your own Bag, printing and painting onto cloth bags
  • 30 October – Make Your own Natural Dyes, bring something along to dye
  • 6 November – Play with Clay, from desk tidies to table top sculptures
  • 20 November – Collage, with AI’s help we’ll make a masterpiece
  • 27 November – TBC
  • 4 December – Christmas cards and decorations
