We are pleased to invite colleagues to the Autumn 2024 Mental Health Research Group which will be the first in a series of termly meetings. For this meeting we have two presentations on the theme of parenting and mental health.
Dr Ayten Bilgin from the Department of Psychology will present her research which uses data from the UK Millennium Cohort Study to investigate whether bed-sharing at 9 months is associated with childhood internalizing and externalizing symptom trajectories at ages 3 to 11. The findings have implications for advice that health professionals might give new parents about bed-sharing.
Dr Edith Aguirre from the Institute of Social and Economic Research will present her research using data from Understanding Society to examine the links between parental gender role attitudes and child mental health outcomes as measured by the total and five components of the strengths and difficulties questionnaire (SDQ). The analysis considers mothers and fathers separately for children aged 5 and 8 and adjusts for key sociodemographic variables. The findings provide insights into how parental gender attitudes may be a possible target for the prevention of mental health difficulties among children.
There will be time for networking with refreshments from 3pm.
This is an in-person event. Please register to attend via Eventbrite.
