Getting started with data and data science

Data science used to just be an area that people with backgrounds in mathematics and computer science could do but new techniques, increases in computer power, and friendlier user interfaces means that it is easier for everyone to learn how to access, process, analyse, and visualise complex data.

Students from the arts, humanities and social sciences are now performing more data-driven roles and are approaching data analysis from new perspectives making them highly employable in the global job market. Degrees with skills that include creativity, multidisciplinary thinking, empathy, critical thinking, communication, and the ability to understand human behaviour, coupled with data and data science skills, are in demand because forecasting complex decision patterns for businesses cannot be achieved by computer algorithms and artificial intelligence alone.

For students where data is a part of your degree but not the main feature, we offer the opportunity to gain advanced analytical skills within the degree programme. This is recognised in the final degree title and transcript.
