Dr. Shaila Ahmed is a Lecturer in Accounting at Essex Business School.
She started her career at Grameen Bank as an intern and worked there for six months. In 2008, she joined as a Lecturer in Accounting and Information Systems at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, and continued her position before joining Essex in 2016.
She has published on issues related to accountability, human rights accounting, governance challenges and change in top academic and policy journals, including the Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, Accounting Forum, Critical Perspectives on International Business and Development in Practice, among others.
Her recent research looks at modern slavery and business human rights violations from the perspectives of gendered economic, social and ecological justice. She has collaborated with established academics, policymakers, and third-sector organizations and secured ESRC funding.
