Our Offer Holder Unibuddy Community is the place to get chatting with your future classmates and get to know each other before you start.
If you’ve never heard of Unibuddy Communities, don’t worry, they’re a bit like a university focused Whatsapp group. The Offer Holder Community is a private chat on the Unibuddy app available by invite only, providing you with a designated space to chat with potential classmates. In addition to Essex offer holders, the community chat also has some student ambassadors in there too.
You should have received your invite via email with your offer, please contact admit@essex.ac.uk if you need this re-sent.
Joining the right community for you
For each academic year there are two main Essex communities; undergraduate offer holders and postgraduate offer holders. We have separate communities for undergrad and postgrad to allow you to meet your future course mates and to keep topics discussed within the chats relevant. You should receive an invite directly from Unibuddy to join the community for your level of study within a few days of receiving your offer email. Email admit@essex.ac.uk if you haven't had this for any reason.
How to join a Unibuddy community
Because these communities are invite only you will need to follow the link in your invite from Unibuddy to gain access and make your profile . Already have a Unibuddy account with your email? You can sign in using your existing password. Once set up you can access the community and any chats you've previously had with Student Ambassadors on the Unibuddy app (available on iOS or Android) or in your internet browser if you prefer. The choice is yours. If you're not yet an offer holder then hang tight, you won't be able to join our community groups until you've received an invite.
Monitoring Unibuddy Community chats
Community chats are designed to be safe spaces for you to meet fellow offer holder and start building your uni network before you get here. For safeguarding purposes they are monitored and behaviour deemed unacceptable will be flagged and dealt with. You can also self-flag any messages or users that you feel are being inappropriate. Expected behaviour on Unibuddy community centres around these 4 rules:
1. Be kind and courteous.
2. No hate or bullying.
3. No promotions or spam.
4. Respect everyone's privacy.
