Disappointingly, Universities UK reports that there has been a sharp increase in anti-Asian racism during the pandemic. I want to reiterate our support for our East and South East Asian staff and students and to make clear that we have a zero tolerance approach to racism in all its forms.
We are an international community and want all our members to feel welcome so that we can flourish and thrive. We stand against racism. Sinophobia and anti-Asian racism will not be tolerated in our community.
We have committed to tackling racism at Essex and we will act on experiences of racism on and off campus and across our physical and virtual environments. If any of our community experience or witness racism, you can report this through Report and Support.
We want to take this opportunity to remind our East and South East Asian staff and students that we stand with you and if you need emotional support during this challenging time, staff can contact our Employee Assistance Programme, and students can get in touch with our Student Services Hub.
