The pandemic required us to become more digitally connected than ever before and embrace new ways of working. As many more of us return to working on campus in a hybrid way, this is a great opportunity to explore and consider new, smarter ways of blended working and co-create beneficial team routines to help to strengthen colleagues’ sense of belonging and an inclusive and collaborative culture.
We are currently working with USG on the definition of Hybrid Working at Essex, but broadly we define it as where and when work happens, which includes a mix of working in University premises and remotely, if it suits the requirements of your role.
When considering this new way of working, our focus must continue to be the delivery of our mission, vision and strategic priorities, and the associated services and tasks for which we are each responsible. We remain a campus-based University and it’s important we all continue to play our part in fostering a sense of community, whilst also considering the right approach to strengthen our key partnerships and student and colleague relationships.
We have listened to colleagues to find out the areas of hybrid team-working support required and from this feedback have developed a variety of team hybrid resources, to support conversations about working patterns and help you manage hybrid teams and meetings. Other hybrid working resources, including a Hybrid Working Policy and FAQs are also being developed.
