Alumni from every decade of Essex history met for a special Alumni Reunion Weekend.

Over 120 alumni from the 1960s to the 2020s spent the weekend at our Colchester Campus, many visiting for the first time since finishing their studies. Some came alone, some in organised groups, and there were even couples who met at Essex and a whole family of graduates. With events such as campus tours and quizzes in the SU bar, it was great to see past, present, and future generations of Essex students mix on campus.

For old times’ sake, more than half of our attendees stayed overnight in Rayleigh Tower. Others, meanwhile, took advantage of Wivenhoe House Hotel’s 10% alumni discount, leaving the hotel sold out on Saturday evening.

Lifelong members of our community

At a drinks reception overlooking the lakes of Wivenhoe Park, Bryn Morris, our Registrar and Secretary, welcomed our alumni home:

“We’ve seen a lot of change over the years, but Essex is still very much the same in spirit – we are brave and bold, we challenge convention and think outside the box. I know that you, as Essex alumni, will have taken these values with you into your lives and careers since graduating.

“More than anything, we hope that today reminds you of your connection and bond to Essex. We promised you when you graduated that you would be a lifelong member of our worldwide alumni community and that is what we want to remind you of today. No matter where life has taken you since your days here, you all have one thing in common which is your Essex experience.”
