We are serious about the climate and biodiversity crises, and we need you, our staff and our students, to be part of the solution.

To help us sort our recyclables better, we’re taking general waste bins out of classrooms at our Colchester Campus, as these don’t allow you to separate your items for recycling.

Instead, we’re providing recycling bins in corridors, where you can easily separate your items into:

  • food waste;
  • dry mixed recycling (paper/card, plastic, tins/cans); and
  • general (non-recyclable) waste.

We are committed to reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2035 and one of our key priorities is increasing the proportion of recyclable material collected on campus, which we can deliver through improved facilities and behaviour change.

Our average recycling rate reached 34% in 2023-24, but we know that this can be better, so please make sure you take any rubbish with you when you’re leaving classrooms and use the right recycling bin.

If you’re not sure what goes in which bin, you can use our handy A-Z to find out.
