Newcomers Research Week: training our next generation of researchers

Kick-start 2025 by boosting your research skills at Newcomers Research Week. From 6 to 10 January, 32 sessions will be delivered online, specifically for researchers at Essex.

Newcomers is our Network for Early Career Essex Researchers, so the content of the sessions is aimed to be introductory. However, any researcher, or staff member supporting researchers, is welcome to join. The sessions are all free to attend and hosted online, and bookings are already live. 

This will be the ninth Newcomers Research Week, but that hasn’t stopped colleagues across Essex from the Library, REO, UK Data Archive, and Communications and External Relations from developing new sessions, including:

• Introduction to REF 2029
• Copyright and your PhD thesis
• Trusted research: an introduction to national security
• How to write for The Conversation
• Evaluation services: applying your skills and expertise to deliver evaluation projects

Alongside this new content, we also have updated versions of many previously well received sessions, including:

• Grant writing essentials
• Introduction to the UK Data Service
• Making information inclusive
• Ethics in public engagement
• Introduction to Open Access

Whether you are an early career researcher, a new starter at Essex, or simply someone who’d like a refresher in some key research topics, book onto as many Newcomers Research Week sessions as you like!
