Read on as we explore what drew her to IADS and what’s next for the institute.
What will the role involve?
The role will involve working closely with IADS Director, Prof Haris Mouratidis, to shape, develop, and implement the Institute's strategy. It will also include maintaining and strengthening partnerships with regional, national, and international partners, increasing business engagement, and supporting cross-disciplinary research.
What will your priorities be as Deputy Director?
I have two main priorities: firstly, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and secondly, increasing the funding portfolio.
I am looking to break down silos, fostering interdisciplinary research groups that bridge the gap between technical and non-technical fields. These groups will focus on high-demand areas, such as AI, cybersecurity, and trustworthy data science, and involve colleagues from SHAPE and STEM fields. Crucial to this is increasing the engagement of colleagues from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and the Faculty of Social Sciences with IADS.
I also aim to increase and diversify the funding portfolio, ensuring engagement with industry and the third sector in this process.
What drew you to IADS specifically?
IADS’s focus on AI, machine learning, cybersecurity, and trustworthy data science aligns closely with my priorities and interests. I’m particularly drawn to their emphasis on research with real-world applications.
The institute’s collaborations with industry, government, and international research organisations provide invaluable opportunities to expand networks and build meaningful partnerships.
What aspects of this new role are you most looking forward to?
IADS is at the forefront of research in the areas of data science and analytics. Joining such an innovative and forward-thinking institute is an incredible opportunity. I am looking forward to contributing to its success by fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and enhancing its engagement with industry and government partners.
