Seminar summary

Stemming from her recent book on “Researching and Writing Differently” (2022, Bristol University Press), Ilaria will discuss how different approaches to being and researching in academia can embrace difference in perspectives and experience, while fostering inclusion. This session will consider the context of contemporary academia, before exploring the political potential of ‘researching and writing differently’ in the choices we make with regards to research themes, methods and styles of writing, as well as the communities of knowing and belonging in academia.

Speaker bio

Professor Ilaria Boncori

Ilaria Boncori is a Professor in Organization Behaviour and HRM at the University of Essex, where she also holds the para-university role of Deputy Dean Postgraduate Research Training. Her scholarly work focuses on inclusion in organizations (or lack thereof) stemming from an intersectional critical approach investigated through qualitative methods. Initially focussed on international business and expatriate adjustment, her current research focuses on individual, affective and embodied experiences in the workplace and processes of organising (for example in relation to gender, race, and foreignness). She is particularly interested in papers that speak to conversations related to “Researching and Writing Differently”, and auto/ethnographic and arts-based methods.
