In 2013, the University of Essex was awarded a prestigious Regius Professorship by Her Majesty the Queen, recognising 50 years of excellence in research and education in political science. To celebrate, we hold an annual Regius Lecture in Political Science. This year, in recognition of the University’s 60th anniversary, we’ll be reflecting on how the Department of Government has managed to build a world-renowned department against the challenges for new institutions and look ahead to future challenges.
Essex at 60: How can a strong environment foster better research? with Professor Kristian Gleditsch, will explore how our Department of Government flourished, when others established in 1964 no longer exist.
He will look at how a thriving research environment, where teamwork and collaborative research are central, has helped to make individuals better and been critical to the success of the Department of Government. He will also explore the possible implications of future challenges arising from funding constraints, changes in the traditional workplace, and socialization under increase remote working and lack of face-to-face interactions.
We are excited to share that Professor Gleditsch will be joined on stage by three special guests: previous Regius Professor and former Head of the Department of Government Professor David Sanders, Professor Friederike Mengel from the Department of Economics, and current Head of the Department of Government Professor Faten Ghosn.
