The Essex Human Rights Centre (HRC) and the Essex Transitional Justice Network (ETJN) in collaboration with the Syrian Academics and Researchers' Network (SARN) in the UK, invite you to a groundbreaking workshop exploring the plurality of Syrian identity.

Workshop Overview

This innovative event brings together artists and academics from across the UK to envision a post-conflict Syrian society rooted in justice, equality, and reconciliation. Through the lens of 'Hidden Identities,' participants will engage in a dialogue and share their work to visualize the unseen, give voice to the unheard, and paint a picture of a future Syria where all identities are acknowledged and celebrated.

Program Highlights

  1. Opening Session: Welcoming remarks and introductions
  2. Collaborative approaches bridging art and scholarship: Presentations by Syrian artists whose work engages with the theme, followed by a dialogue with the participants
  3. Roundtable Discussions: Collaborations and research clusters
  4. Closing Reflections: Key insights and next steps

We aim to

  • Engage in dialogue around 'hidden identities' in Syrian context
  • Explore intersections of art and academic research
  • Contribute to envisioning reconciliation for post-conflict Syrian society
  • Network with fellow artists, academics, and researchers
  • Potential for future collaborations and funding opportunities
