Lunchtime Tour of Brutal But Beautiful

Join curator Jess Twyman for a tour of our 60th anniversary exhibition, which celebrates the University of Essex’s Brutalist concrete architecture.

Find out more about the architectural models, plans and drawings on show in the gallery – and how they align to the founding Vice Chancellor’s visionary academic plan. Jess will then take us on a short tour of the 1964-68 campus buildings. Here we will focus on the ‘jewels in the crown’ of our architecture, including the Library and the Hex, as well as the interconnecting squares that bring campus together.

We'll also tell you a few stories about what happened when the students turned up!
