As part of Heritage Open Days, join Art Exchange for an tour of the University of Essex’s Brutalist 1960s architecture.

We will take you on a tour of the University's original 1960s architecture, including a visit to the iconic black brick residential Towers - the students' favourite accommodation - as well as visiting the original Hex restaurant and the Library with its Paternoster lift. We will discuss the ideas and vision of founding Vice-Chancellor, Albert Sloman, and how the university is a 3-D version of this vision built in concrete and glass.

While at Art Exchange you can enjoy the Brutal But Beautiful exhibition, which includes the first model of campus made out of LEGO (1962), and the Masterplan model which toured the county of Essex raising funds for the University in 1963-64.

Admission free, meet at Art Exchange - all welcome.
