Kicking off the start of your academic journey, Welcome Week offers an array of activities designed to help you settle in, make new friends, and integrate into our academic community.

During your course induction, you will:

  • have the opportunity to meet your lecturers, get acquainted with your course structure, and connect with peers who will share this journey with you.
  • find out about the modules you will be studying, your placements and how you will be assessed later on in the year.
  • Learn about the tools and resources that you will be using, and the support that is available to you, particularly in terms of developing your skills with academic writing, reflective learning and accessing the University Library.
  • be supported to complete your mandatory training and learn about the professional requirements for students training to be a practitioner in health and social care.

This is also time to immerse yourself in the academic environment, ask questions, and begin forming the relationships that will support and inspire you throughout your studies.

The Welcome Week schedule for your course will be published to new students on Moodle, the University's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), from 3rd September 2024. Once you have set up your Essex IT account, you’ll be able to login to Moodle to enrol on the Online Welcome Programme and download your induction schedule from here.

On Thursday 10 October 2024, our students are also invited to join our School of Health and Social Care Mixer hosted by the Students’ Union.

  • Your course induction begins at 10.00am on Tuesday 1st October 2024 in room 1N1.4.1, accessed from Square 1.

Global Public Health (MSc)

Leadership in Health and Care

  • The Masters course induction begins at 10.00am on Wednesday 2nd October 2024 in room 5A.120, accessed from Square 4.
  • The Postgraduate Diploma Apprenticeship course begins at 10.00am on Thursday 3rd October 2024 in room 5A.120, accessed from Square 4.

Nursing - BSc, MSci and Degree Apprenticeships in Adult and Mental Health Nursing, and Nursing Associates

Occupational Therapy

  • BSc and MSc: Your course induction begins at 10.00am on Monday 30th September 2024 in room NTC.3.05, in the North Teaching Centre.
  • Apprentices: Your course induction begins at 9.00am on Tuesday 1st October 2024 in room 5S.3.1, accessed from Square 1.

Social Work (BA and MA)

Speech and Language Therapy

  • BSc and MSc: Your course induction begins at 10.00am on Monday 30th September 2024 in room EBS.2.2 at the Essex Business School Building.
  • Apprentices: Your course induction begins at 9.00am 00am on Tuesday 1st October 2024 in room 5A.118 accessed from Square 4.
