In this workshop, we’ll explore the basics of storytelling from the self, taking our own lived experiences as inspiration to create.

  • Are you thinking about writing your first play, but inspiration has not struck yet?
  • Do you have a story brewing in your head but don’t know how to bring it to life?
  • Has something happened to you that you cannot wait to share with the world?

Through the theatrical genre of auto-biographical theatre, we’ll discover our own voice as creatives and will explore how to bring our own lived experiences to stage in a safe and effective way for both our audiences and for ourselves.

Facilitated by Marina Cusi Sanchez, Artistic Director of Mad, Who? Theatre Company and University of Essex BA Drama and Literature 2022 graduate, this workshop has been developed from Cusi’s own practice, which heavily relies on auto-biographical and historical research, and has earned the company a spot as finalists at the 2024 Offies Awards.

All levels welcome; beginners welcome! No need to have any previous theatre or performing experience.

This is a free workshop for University of Essex students, though please book your space in advance!
