Speaker biography

Dr Paul Mee is a Senior Research Fellow, at the Lincoln Institute for Rural and Coastal Health, University of Lincoln UK and Honorary Research Fellow, at the School for Data Science and Computational Thinking, Stellenbosch, South Africa.

The Lincoln Institute of Rural and Coastal Health (LIRCH) is dedicated to unravelling the intricate factors that influence health outcomes in rural and coastal communities, with a particular emphasis on rural Lincolnshire. Their research extends beyond the UK to encompass global health challenges.

As an Epidemiologist and Data Scientist, Dr Mee's work focusses on identifying and overcoming barriers to healthcare access. He has a deep, long-standing commitment to Global Health, with a special focus on the HIV pandemic in Sub-Saharan Africa. Currently, he is the lead investigator on a significant NIH-funded trial in Zimbabwe, aimed at leveraging male peer networks to enhance the uptake of HIV self-testing and Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP). Additionally, he is investigating the evolving relationship between wealth, education, and HIV outcomes in South Africa.

In the UK, Dr Mee's research is exploring and addressing digital exclusion in healthcare, particularly among vulnerable sub-groups in Lincolnshire, and exploring strategies to overcome these barriers to ensure equitable access to health services.
