Come along and relax with us while creating your own printed artworks!
Over six weeks our tutor Tom Armstrong will guide you through the process of printmaking – including working from a printing press, using type letters, and how to make an impact with colour.
We’re taking inspiration from the revolutionary printmaker William Blake (1757 – 1827) who invented his own printing process, so join us exploring all the possibilities print-making offers!
You can come along for all six classes, or just drop by for one:
- Wed 22 Jan – Introduction to Printmaking – mono and block printing. (This class is in Art Exchange)
- Wed 29 Jan – Printing and Presses – have a go with a mechanical printing press as we go old school!
- Wed 5 Feb – Letters, Lettering and Letterpress – adventure into the world of type!
- Wed 12 Feb – Drawing and Printmaking – explore how to draw by using wax resistant printing.
- Wed 19 Feb – Colour and Printmaking – experiment with all the possibilities adding colours can bring.
- Wed 26 Feb – Book Binding – bring together prints into a unique booklet of your own.
All materials are provided.
Free for students and staff at the University of Essex – no need to book, just turn up.
This series of print workshops have been made possible by the generous support of the Bean Trust.
