Do you love captivating stories, that include thrilling drama, alternate history and romance while also exploring themes of inequality and race? Then Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman is the book!

Join us this American Black history month as we dive into the powerful world of Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman. We’ll explore the complex relationships between two characters—Sephy, a Cross, and Callum, a Nought—in a divided society.

This book club event, which is presented by Essex Interns working in the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Literary Studies, is a space where students can feel relaxed and free to talk about this book, among other students. Whether you’ve only read one chapter, the whole book or even nothing at all, everyone is welcome.

We'll be looking at the book and tv adaptation, while exploring themes like race, societal division, and inequality, examining how these issues continue to cause problems in today’s world and remain deeply relevant to the challenges we face in society now.
