About Lucero Del Castillo Ames

Lucero Del Castillo Ames (Lima) is a visual artist working in Lima, Peru. She has a Master's degree in Anthropology from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (2021) and another in Contemporary Photography from the Centro de la Imagen (2018). She was a finalist for the PHmuseum 2018 Women Photographers Grant and chosen as artist-in-residence in Light Work, New York (2025). She has participated in exhibitions in Peru and France and is a university professor at Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas. In 2023 she published, in co-authorship with Víctor Vich, the photobook Contrapunto and made the short film El principio de lo terrible.  

Her work focuses on the dynamics between gender and power generated by socioeconomic conditions and cultural consumption approached from a documentary and artistic perspective. Her work arises from research in various archives, in which she explores the relationship between images and texts, using photography and video, with the aim of historicizing the gaze, disarticulating hegemonic discourses, making power relations visible and trying to generate new social imaginaries. Her practice as a photographer is nourished by anthropological thought, critical theory and political work with various social collectives.
