Our Postgraduate Open Evening is your chance to see the place you might be calling home.

Our Postgraduate Open Evening on Wednesday 19 March will be offered both in-person at our Colchester Campus as well as virtually, so if you are unable to travel, you can engage with our talks and other content from the comfort of your own home.

Maybe you've already applied but haven't visited us yet, or you’re holding an offer from us and want to find out more. If you study with us currently or not, we can’t wait to welcome you to chat about studying a postgraduate course. Book your place to chat to like-minded students and discover more about studying with us.

Our in-person event will begin at 3.30pm and finish at 7pm – drop in any time but check back here for more information on the exact programme later. Talks will also be available virtually via this webpage - you'll just need to sign into Zoom to access them on the day.

What can you expect on the day?

  • Where - check in at the Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall lower foyer from 3.30pm.
  • General Talks - find out more about Essex, Student Finance, Applying and Employability.
  • Subject Talks - learn more about your chosen subject area.
  • Tours - we will be running campus, accommodation and facility tours to showcase our campus and postgraduate accommodation.
  • Talk to your department - chat to your department and get answers to your questions about your subject.
  • Chat with Student Services - Accommodation, Postgraduate Admissions, Library and Cultural services, Essex Startups, Security, Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity Services will be available to answer any questions you have around becoming a postgraduate student.
  • Network with our current postgraduate students - learn about life as a postgraduate at Essex.

Free Greater Anglia train tickets

We've partnered with Greater Anglia to provide our prospective students with a free train ticket to attend our Postgraduate Open Evening. You can claim one Greater Anglia off-peak day return ticket on the date of the Postgraduate Open Evening from your nearest Greater Anglia home station to Colchester. Applications for the train ticket must be made at least 5 working days before the date of the Postgraduate Open Evening. You will be able to add on accompanying tickets for any guests you're bringing with you. These tickets will be charged at the correct and current journey price.

To find out more information and apply for your ticket, visit the Greater Anglia website. You'll need a discount code for the free ticket so keep an eye out for this in your Postgraduate Open Evening booking confirmation email or email us for the code.

Getting to us

Travelling by car

Whether approaching our Colchester Campus from London and the South or Ipswich and the North via the A12, take the exit marked Colchester (A133). Follow the A133 towards Clacton-on-Sea, ignore the entrance to the Knowledge Gateway, continue along the A133 then take the B1028 for Wivenhoe before turning right onto Boundary Road.

Parking

Please follow the event car parking signs which will lead you to our allocated visitor parking, in Valley Car Park. Parking during our event is free. The address of our Colchester Campus is:

If you are using a SatNav, please use the following postcode, CO4 3FA as this will direct you to the south side of our Colchester Campus, where you'll find Valley Car Park.

Travelling by bus or train

There are frequent trains from London Liverpool Street Station to Colchester with connections to Ipswich, Norwich, Felixstowe, Harwich and beyond.

We have three train stations in Colchester: Colchester Town, Colchester Hythe and Colchester North Station (also referred to as Colchester Main Station). Colchester North Station is the largest and has the best bus and taxi links so we recommend using this station. There is a taxi rank and bus stop at the station. The following buses will lead you to campus:
