UpLift is an international film festival, organised by students at the Department of Literature, Film and Theatre Studies (LiFTS) at University of Essex. The festival screens film work and hosts additional activities that focus on particular themes or filmmaking modes. In its third edition the festival explores comedy as a genre

This year UpLift aims to:

  • represent the diversity within the comedy genre and its interpretation by different cultures
  • create a comic relief experience for the University of Essex community
  • offer insight into the comedy filmmaking process

During the festival, apart from screenings, there will be additional sessions – an industry talk, a workshop and a quiz – available to audiences and filmmakers. A full programme of those will be announced shortly.

The programme will showcase work from all parts of the world, screening 24 short comedy films of a variety of styles, coming from 14 countries from across the world. Students have carefully curated the programme out of 918 submissions!

All events take place in LTB and are open to everyone. Admission is free but you need to book a ticket via Eventbrite.
