Overview
This is an introductory qualitative research course, taught by one of the authors of the popular SAGE textbook ‘How to do Qualitative Interviewing’ and MAXQDA Professional Trainer.
Dates and Format
Taught by an experienced quantitative researcher, this two-day program features a mix of lectures, interactive exercises, and hands-on practical MAXQDA training in a computer lab.
Participants can chose between a one or two day course;
Tuesday 25 March 2025 - Introduction to Qualitative Interviewing
Wednesday 26 March 2025 - Analysis using MAXQDA
Learning Outcomes
- Understand key issues associated with qualitative interviewing, including recruitment, ethics and challenging circumstances.
- Be familiar with the key skills of interviewing, including body language, asking open questions, probing and active listening.
- Understand how to use MAXQDA to undertake a basic qualitative analysis, including data familiarisation, coding (manual and automatic) and continued reflection on the data.
- Appreciate how document variables can be used to view data according to fixed characteristics.
- Evaluate the strengths and weakness of the ‘AI Assist’ Feature to aid qualitative analysis.

Suitable for Professional stakeholders (such as Police and Law Enforcement, Civil Service, Industry, Education, Military, NHS), PhD students and academics without a background in qualitative methods.
