Zacharias Kritikos
Studying at Essex has been a pleasure and definitely one of the best decisions that I made in my life. I particularly enjoy my degree and the educational system in the United Kingdom. The lectures are very engaging, and it is super easy to approach your lecturers and get as much help as you need. In addition to that, the whole university life and the opportunities that you get at the University of Essex are amazing. Apart from the knowledge that I acquired from my modules, I was given great opportunities to develop my employability skills. I did a 3-month internship in a Colchester-based start-up called Creative Quills. Also, I was given the chance to undertake a placement year at the Government Economic Service in South Wales, where I spent a whole year. At the moment, I am working on campus at the university’s Students’ Union. Last but definitely not least, the life in Colchester is very nice. It is not a huge city which makes it rather easy to discover it and it is only 1 hour from London. So, you will never get bored!

I heard about Essex from friends that had attended the university and had a fantastic experience there. The Department of Government is ranked highly for research and teaching and has a brilliant reputation which really attracted me. I found it really easy to settle into university life; everyone was so welcoming and warm and I immediately made friends. The lecturers are very supportive and make sure you understand everything. I especially enjoy the ‘Introduction to Politics’ module and it really opened my mind and enabled to me to look at ideas with a different perspective. I’ve joined the dance club and met lots of new people and had a brilliant time getting more involved with the university. I love being at Essex, it’s been a home away from home.
