Essex has a long history of welcoming students from Latvia to join our diverse community of over 135 different nationalities. Over a third of our student population are from outside of the UK so you’ll feel right at home.

Balstoties uz manu personīgo pieredzi varu teikt, ka mācību kvalitāte Essex ir ļoti augstā līmenī, kaut gan man nav bijis grūti pielāgoties mācībām Anglijā, jo visi skolotāji ir ļoti pretimnākoši un vienmēr gatavi atbildēt uz maniem jautājumiem. Studentu dzīve piedāvā neskaitāmas iespējas pamēģināt pavisam jaunas lietas un iepazīt studentus no visas pasaules.  Manā pirmajā gadā, es dzīvoju vienā no studentu pilsētiņas kopmītnēm “South Towers”. Priekš manis tā bija lieliska izvēle, jo tā bija ļoti draudzīga vide un lieliska iespēja iegūt jaunus draugus. Studentu pilsētiņā ir viss nepieciešamais, lai nevajadzētu doties ārpus tās, tomēr, tajā pašā laikā, ir ļoti viegli doties uz pilsētu, kā arī Londona un Stansted lidosta ir tikai stundas attālumā. 
Es noteikti ieteiktu pieteikties mācīties University of Essex. Esmu ļoti apmierināts ar savu izvēli, jo esmu ieguvis ne tikai vērtīgas zināšanas lekcijās, bet arī darba pieredzi, esmu piedalījies brīvprātīgo darbā, mācījies ārzemēs, ieguvis jaunus draugus un kopumā izbaudījis savu laiku Anglijā.

Entry requirements

Undergraduate

Most of our Undergraduate Bachelor degree courses will consider 8 overall average from Atestats par visparejo videjo izglitibu. Applicants with 70% in the centralised state exam or 8 in English in the Atestats school exam will not normally be required to provide a further English Language qualification. Please note students requiring a student visa to study in the UK will require a further English Language Test. 

We also have a range of Foundation Programmes available if you do not meet these grades. Please visit our Pathways Department for details about our undergraduate degrees with a foundation year and the University of Essex International College for other undergraduate and postgraduate pathways.

Some courses have higher entry requirements as well as other admissions criteria. Please see individual courses for more information or email our admissions team admit@essex.ac.uk.

Postgraduate Taught

Many of our Postgraduate Taught Masters will consider applicants with 6 or C or above from Bachelor degree. Some courses and departments have higher entry requirements as well as other admissions criteria. Postgraduate Research

For entry to Research degrees, please refer to the entry requirements for the course that you are interested in. 
An undergraduate degree equivalent to a UK 2:2 (see the information above), and a master’s degree with a good grade is required for most PhD programmes, in addition to a well-developed research proposal in a field in which we can offer supervision. Please have a read through our information for PhD applicants and check the course details for your chosen programme for further information about entry criteria.

Scholarships and funding

Our Essex Global Talent Scholarship, worth 50% of the first year tuition fee, is available for international undergraduate or master’s students.

International Baccalaureate Excellence Scholarship offers £2,000 scholarships to students who start at Essex in 2025-2026 and achieve academic excellence in their International Baccalaureate.  

Our Undergraduate EU Scholarship offers £5,000 scholarships to undergraduate students from Latvia. Please visit the link for further details about deadlines and eligibility.

Our Master (PGT) EU Scholarship offers up to £5,500 scholarships to undergraduate students from Latvia. Please visit the link for further details about deadlines and eligibility.

I thought that Essex would be the most suitable choice for me. I also liked the fact that Essex has a lot of international students. Settling into university life was very easy and a lot of fun. I enjoyed it a lot as the social side of this university is great and you meet new people every day. It was easy to settle into university life academically as well, as the people who work at university are usually helpful and explain and answer students` questions. During my Freshers’ year I lived on campus in one of the North Towers. Living in a tower was a great experience and I would definitely recommend it to first year students. It is a fun experience because there are so many young people living together and it is very social, and never boring. If other Latvian students are thinking of applying, they should look forward to studying here and they should enjoy the time at Essex as much as they can. It is a very different experience in a positive way. I doubt that anyone who is social enough would regret coming to Essex because it is a lot of fun socially and academically as well.
