We're launching a new partnership with Kaplan to operate a pathway college for international students opening in 2018.

Our new pathway college will be based on our Colchester Campus and will offer degree preparation courses covering study skills and English language, leading to bachelors and masters degrees at Essex.

Dean of Partnerships Professor Dominic Micklewright said: “We're a truly international institution with a long history of welcoming students from around the world. Studying at Essex gives students the best chance to compete in a global economy thanks to our internationally relevant curriculum and the chance to be taught by academics whose research has global impact.

“This new pathway college is an exciting next development in our partnership with Kaplan which builds on our success with University of Essex Online and the Kaplan Higher Education Academy which offers University of Essex degree programmes in Singapore.”

Linda Cowan, MD, Kaplan International Colleges, said: “The success of our partnership is grounded in delivering an excellent educational experience driven by our shared institutional values.  The high levels of academic provision and student support that we provide for our online students are the best foundation on which to develop this new on-campus pathway college to prepare students for university study at one of the UK’s most innovative and exciting universities.”

Starting in September 2018, our pathway college will offer:

  • Foundation certificate for Humanities, Science and Health, and Social Sciences
  • International Year One for Business and Economics
  • Pre-Master’s for Humanities, Science and Health, and Social Science
  • Pre-sessional English for direct entry will begin in summer 2019.

Our existing Essex Pathways will continue to offer pathway programmes tailored for UK and EU students at Foundation level. Essex Pathways will also offer pre-sessional English for direct entry until this moves across to Kaplan for delivery in summer 2019.

Our Colchester Campus welcomes more than 140 nationalities and offers mentoring sessions, academic and language support and one-on-one guidance.  Services and resources are provided for graduates at the University’s Employability and Careers Centre and these continue to be available as long as graduates need them.

We've invested more than £200 million in new facilities, including our award-winning Essex Business School, media centre, study pods, computer suites and a 24-hour learning hub. There are plans to invest another £100 million in new facilities.

We're ranked 22nd in The Times and the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018, ranked 21st among universities globally for international outlook (Times Higher Education World University Rankings, 2018), and 91.7% of international graduates are in work or further study within six months of graduation (Destination of Leavers from Higher Education, 2016) .
