James Hocken (BSc Sports and Exercise Science) took a placement as a Performance Analyst for Norwich City Football Club. As part of his role he analysed footage, produced data reports for player review meetings and presented analysis sessions to academy teams.
He worked with the under 14 and 15 teams, assisted and travelled to various stadiums with the under 23s and worked full time at the club’s Colney Training Centre.
He said: “I was given freedom to play around with the data and created a statistical model that was given great feedback from the club and is the subject for my dissertation.”
James completed his coaching qualifications at the club and thanks to the placement, landed a paid placement as a seasonal analyst at the Football Association.
He said: “I travelled with the team to Italy for an international tournament last month. I have been working with some of the best coaches and backroom staff in England and continuously learned from their expertise.”
After graduation, James has many opportunities lined up and hopes to land a full-time position with a football club.
