Class of 2018: Toby Bonnett

All this week we are celebrating the achievements of some of our students who are graduating in the class of 2018.

Toby Bonnett (BA Hotel Management) won the prestigious Institute of Travel and Tourism Hospitality and Catering Student of the Year award during his studies.

After completing his course last September he went straight into the graduate programme run by BaxterStorey, the UK’s leading independent hospitality provider. Now he’s heading into his first role as a Deputy General Manager at one of their key sites in Canary Wharf, London.

His training, he says, has been invaluable. “It has been an incredible experience which has seen me exposed to the entire organisation from porters to global CEOs of our client organisations. The fact that many of my graduate colleagues are becoming general managers or operations support managers looking after one or more businesses speaks for the rapid progression the scheme can provide if that is what you desire.”

Toby thinks BaxterStorey is a good fit for Edge Hotel School graduates. “I think we are far more hands-on and are able to get stuck in to the operational side,” he said. “As we complete our degrees in two intensive years, the course is tough, but I really valued the experience of studying, living and working with the same group of people.
