Industry supporters of the Edge Hotel School award annual scholarships

Supporters from across the hospitality industry have awarded scholarships of up to £3,000 to new Edge Hotel School students to support their studies in hospitality, hotel and events management at the University of Essex.

A passion for France and a keen interest in vineyards has helped Edge Hotel School student Matthew win a prestigious scholarship offered by Moët & Chandon. Matthew has been given £1,000 and will benefit from training with experts from Moët & Chandon and a visit to their vineyards in Champagne, France.

Urte, from Lithuania, has been selected for the Liz Hartstone Executive Search Scholarship which she will put to good use during her two year degree course in hotel management. Urte said: “It is an honour to get the scholarship, to be recognised for your motivation to succeed is extremely rewarding.”

Two students, Georgia and Laura, have each been awarded a £3,000 scholarship by the Savoy Educational Trust to help with the costs of their degrees. The Savoy Educational Trust scholarships are designed to support talented students and encourage the outstanding hospitality managers of the future.

Local student Nidal has been awarded a prestigious scholarship worth £3,000 by the Edge Foundation. Jane Samuels, Head of Projects and Partnerships at the Edge Foundation, said: “Our scholarship is awarded to students who aspire to achieve the highest levels in their studies and who wish to experience a more practical approach to their education as a basis for their future hospitality career. It is clear that Nidal meets all these criteria and we are looking forward to working with him.”

Events Management with Hospitality student Els was the recipient of the £3,000 Jurys Inn scholarship, which is awarded to one student who demonstrates why they will be an asset to the Edge Hotel School and the hospitality industry in general. She plans to put the money towards travelling after she completes her degree.

Hotel Management student Abbie has been awarded a £3,000 scholarship by Exclusive Hotels and Venues who award one scholarship a year to an Edge Hotel School student who can demonstrate their desire and drive to succeed within the hospitality industry.  Abbie said: “I was so happy when I heard I had won and Exclusive Hotels and Venues have already been in touch to arrange work experience for me at one of their properties. I will use the money to help with my travel and accommodation costs for this and other degree-related experiences."
