We originally shared video of the proposal on Twitter, but took the video down as some people questioned whether Agne would really be happy about Edgaras asking her to marry her in front of crowds of onlookers.
We wanted to check how Agne really felt herself and it turns out she was very happy.
She spoke to Triangle News reporter Rosaleen Fenton and told her she was really pleased to have the chance to put her side of the story.
Agne was receiving her Masters degree in English Language and Applied Linguistics at the graduation and said she was overjoyed by the public proposal by her childhood sweetheart: “I think that this day became even more beautiful with this proposal.”
She added: “I remember myself standing on the stage. I was a little bit nervous, but extremely happy.
“Then, all of a sudden I saw Edgaras coming, but everything happened so quickly that it took me some time to understand what actually happened.
“He knelt on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was in so much shock and of course I said yes.
“Everyone cheered and it was an amazing proposal which truly took me by surprise.
“Well, I knew something was up but didn’t have a clue.”
