A programme of live music, for staff, students, and the general public, is planned in the grounds at the University of Essex over the next five weeks.

The aim is to breathe life back into the University’s Colchester Campus – providing COVID-safe entertainment for those who live, work and visit there while at the same time giving work to musicians, who have not been able to perform for the last 18 months.

Music is planned at lunchtimes (noon until 2pm) every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and 5pm-7pm every Saturday until 9 October. The programme includes a range of musical genres from rock, soul and pop to folk, reggae and jazz.

The performers include:

  • Matt Haines Solo - acoustic folk, rock and pop
  • Liam Fitz - Indie-pop British singer-songwriter
  • Lady Monica – soul, disco, afro hi-life, fuji, reggae, jazz, swing, blues, dance, rock, pop, funk, gospel, and chorale music

Throughout the pandemic the campus has been quiet, although some students and a small number of staff have remained. Now, people are gradually beginning to return with more and more students expected back throughout September ahead of the new term in October.

The performances will take place in Square 3 during the week and on the plaza outside the Silberrad Student Centre at the weekends.
