The University of Essex will be showing how artificial intelligence (AI) can transform businesses and the professional services sector at the AI Summit - the headline AI event of London Tech Week, on 15-16 June 2022 at the Tobacco Docks in London.
At the event, University of Essex academics and teams from its Research and Enterprise Office will be showcasing how connecting with world-leading AI expertise at UK universities can revolutionise the business and government sectors.
On Wednesday 15 June, Professor Alejandro Quiroz Flores, Chief Scientific Advisor to Essex County Council based at the Institute for Analytic and Data Science (IADS), Deputy Director of the Business and Local Government Data Research Centre, and Professor in the Department of Government at Essex, will be part of a panel discussion focusing on The Bright Future of AI in the Public Sector: Collaboration Between Government, Industry and Academia.
Over in the AI Summit’s Exhibition Hall, the University of Essex will highlight a new AI For Services hub, which brings together leading academics from across the University to design bespoke trustworthy AI solutions for challenges faced in the professional services industry.
Led by Professor Haris Mouratidis, Director of the University’s Institute for Analytic and Data Science (IADS), the AI For Services hub will draw on expertise from across IADS, which includes academics from the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science, Essex Business School, School of Law and Department of Government, to offer a single destination for the professional services industry to connect with AI specialists.
Professor Haris Mouratidis, Director of IADS, comments: “AI can deliver real and tangible benefits for the professional service industry. From performing and accelerating repetitive tasks to enhancing cyber security to accurately predicting and acting on workloads and employee needs, Essex has world-leading academic expertise available to create bespoke AI solutions that can transform a business.
“The AI For Services hub will help simplify the process for those looking to innovate by creating a single destination to access our experienced knowledge base. No matter the challenge your business is facing, we’ll be able to find the right solution, resources, and funding opportunities to meet your needs.”
Supported by the University’s Business Engagement team, part of the Research and Enterprise Office, those in the professional services industry are encouraged to identify and share the biggest challenges they’re facing.
Rob Walker, Head of Business Engagement at Essex comments: “The capability of the UK’s professional services industry is world-leading in a marketplace that’s expected to reach $9651.77 billion globally in 2026. At Essex, we see significant interest in our AI research across the entire sector – from SME insurance firms looking to begin their AI journey to large consulting firms looking to tackle emerging or niche use cases, such as network science or transparent AI, within their data teams.”
“Our AI For Services hub encapsulates two key principles: to offer a single point of contact for ambitious firms looking to utilise our research for commercial gain; and to create a central hub for building research capacity in applied AI research tailored to this industry through our ever-growing AI academic base.”
