TEDx at the University of Essex

Essex students have curated an exciting TEDx event at the University of Essex's Colchester Campus packed full of thought-provoking talks.

On Saturday 13 May, speakers will focus on the topic of “Mind the Gap”, which will explore how to rise to challenges and demands that restrict us all in the modern world.

The University of Essex TEDx will delve into how seeking success is not always smooth sailing and how we have to step out of our comfort zones.

The TEDx University of Essex team said: “People can expect an exciting and thought-provoking day of presentations from inspiring speakers.

"You will learn from speakers and performers from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, from academic experts to industry professionals, about how to bridge these divides to create a more equitable and just society.”

The wide range of speakers from all kinds of backgrounds will address culture differences, challenges of disability and “Productivity Porn”.

The eight speakers, all from the Essex and London area, include Sebastian Serban, Serena Martino, Dorsa Heidari, Mike Adam, Purvi Kay, Paul Forrest, Danielle Howell, and Daisy Morris.

The TEDx University of Essex team added: “The event title refers to paying attention to the gap between a person at one point in their life and then their life after achieving their goal.

“The ‘gap’ might represent an obstacle people have had to overcome, a challenge they encountered, or stepping outside of their comfort zone.”

“Mind the Gap” is open to students and staff at the university as well as the public.

TEDx University of Essex is a student society dedicated to producing an annual symposium involving various speakers allowing the audience to connect with people with similar ideas.

TEDx events are locally and independently organised, but follow the themes of TED’s mission to promote "ideas worth spreading".
