A social news platform launched by a high-flying Essex graduate has been specially chosen for a crowdfunding campaign as it bids to become a world leader in the industry.

Riple was launched by BSc Computer Science graduate Anupam Ghosal in response to the Covid pandemic and the need to provide a reliable platform for accurate news and information.

Anupam was able to launch Riple thanks to the help of the Essex Startups team, and with the platform exploding in popularity, it has now been chosen by Crowdcube for a crowdfunding campaign.

Crowdcube is a public investment initiative, raising much needed cash for businesses in return for shares in their company.

Riple was approached by a Crowdcube executive who has been impressed with the platform and is part of the ever-expanding group of users, which is now just short of one million people.

Anupam said: “It is a highlight moment because Crowdcube selects just a handful of startups every year from all around Europe.

“Being chosen due to our innovative approach to transforming the news industry and our impressive market traction was incredibly validating.

“Crowdcube recognised our rapid user growth and strong engagement metrics as clear indicators of our potential to disrupt the news space, making us an ideal fit for their platform.”

Anupam says the extra funds brought in through the Crowdcube campaign will accelerate the growth of the business, and will help further develop crucial technology, scale server capacity, and expand user acquisition efforts.

He wants Riple to become a global leader in the news industry, ensuring accuracy and a wide-range of voices of people from different backgrounds are available on the platform.

“I have been pleasantly surprised by the rapid success of Riple,” Anupam said.

“We have learned from our users and created a product that serves their needs, which I believe is a key reason for our success.”

Anupam was able to launch Riple after taking part in Essex Startups’ Evolve program, which gives entrepreneurs the foundation and tools they need to launch a successful business.

He remains thankful for their support in helping him launch Riple, adding: “The mentors at Essex Startups have been invaluable, offering guidance and insights that have shaped our strategy.

“Being around other innovative startup founders also gave us insights into other industries that I initially didn’t know about.

“Despite graduating a few years ago, Essex still feels like home, and Riple will always be something that started at Essex.”
