UK Trade Commissioner helps launch new partnership in Pakistan

His Majesty's Trade Commissioner for the Middle East and Pakistan Oliver Christian was guest of honour at the official launch of the new partnership between Beaconhouse International College and the University of Essex.

Mr Christian told those attending the prestigious event: “This partnership is a shining example of the growing opportunity between the UK and Pakistan in the education sector. The collaboration gives students from Beaconhouse International College the opportunity to gain a degree from the University of Essex, empowering future leaders by fostering a global exchange of knowledge, innovation and expertise.”

The event was also attended by Nasreen Kasuri, chairperson of Beaconhouse National University Fund and the founder of Pakistan’s largest school system, Beaconhouse School System.

The launch took place during a visit to Pakistan by University of Essex's Dean of Partnerships Dr Annecy Lax and Deputy Dean of Partnerships David Briggs. As the innovative partnership is the first of its kind in Pakistan, the visit generated a great deal of press interest with Dr Lax and Mr Briggs interviewed by many leading media outlets including PTV, Radio Pakistan and FM 100.

Mr Briggs said: “Our visit to Pakistan has been an incredible experience. The warmth and hospitality of the people, along with the amazing food, have made us feel truly welcome, and we are excited to launch this transformative educational partnership with Beaconhouse International College that will empower students and strengthen our global ties.”

While in Pakistan, the University team met with the BIC leadership team, visited BIC campuses in Islamabad and Lahore, and took part in a special symposium on transnational education organised by BIC.. They also visited Fatima Jinnah University and Lahore University and had meetings with the British High Commission and the British Council.

The University of Essex and Beaconhouse International partnership will deliver an exciting range of business, law and technology courses. At postgraduate level this includes Master of Business Management (MBM), MSc Applied Data Science and LLM International Commercial and LLM Business Law, then at graduate level LLB Law, BSc Artificial Intelligence, Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and BSc Accounting and Finance.

The courses are being established with support from the University of Essex’s internationally renowned departments including Essex Business School, Essex Law School, School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, and School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science.
