Law and social sciences in world top 100 in THE rankings

Essex Law School and social sciences at Essex are in the top 100 in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject.

Essex Law School was ranked 87th in the world and the 16th highest in the UK, according to the rankings.

Social sciences was also ranked in the top 100 in the world, coming in 93rd globally and 14th highest in the UK.

The rankings show the strongest universities around the world for key subjects, assessing research-intensive universities across their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

Essex is also ranked highly in other areas in the 2024 THE World University Rankings by Subject:

  • Psychology: 126st-150th
  • Business and Economics: 151st–175th
  • Computer Science: 201st–250th
  • Arts and Humanities: 251st–300th
  • Life Sciences: 301st–400th

In terms of UK universities, Computer Science, Psychology, and Business and Economics were ranked in the top 30 in this year’s THE World University Rankings by Subject.

Essex’s success in the global subject rankings come after it was also placed in the top 60 in the world in last year’s THE World Impact Rankings, ranking 58 out of 2,152 universities across 125 countries - the third year in a row Essex has earnt a place in the top 100.
