Biography

Dr Ọmọ́máyọ̀wá Àbàtì is a Senior Research Officer with the Multilingualism, Conflict and Conflict Resolution in Africa (MCCRA) Project, Department of Government, University of Essex, United Kingdom. The MCCRA is an ambitious project that brings together expertise from the UK and Africa to develop a deeper understanding of how multilingual skills and practices affect the risk of conflict and prospects for conflict resolution. Ọmọ́máyọ̀wá recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Political Science, Stellenbosch University, where he studied for his PhD in Politics. Before that, he worked as a lecturer at King's University, Nigeria. His research interests revolve around issues of democratic governance, informality, conflict and development in Africa. His doctoral research focused on political candidacy, representation and legislative effectiveness of young people but currently, he is working on the relationship between multilingualism, conflict and conflict resolution in five African countries.
