Biography
I am a PhD student in the Department of Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies. My research is interdisciplinary, spanning Jungian psychology, phenomenology and narrative theory. Prior to my PhD, I completed a master's course in Jungian and post-Jungian studies. I was awarded the David Holt prize for the best performance on the master's course. My PhD research is funded by the Consortium for the Humanities and the Arts South-east England (CHASE). Archetypes as Emplotment: A Narrative Approach to Jungian Psychology
The traditional Jungian view of the relationship between archetypes and narrative has focussed on how the former manifest themselves in the plots of the latter. But my project proposes a shift from this understanding of archetypes—which tends to view them as timeless, symbolic and, ultimately, static entities—towards an understanding of them in terms of the dynamic, integrative narrative process known as emplotment.
